Location

The University of Akron Athletic Fieldhouse

The Fieldhouse is located on Union Street across from the

outdoor track. Click here for a campus map. There is a

1100-space parking deck at the corner of Carroll and Spicer

streets, northeast of the fieldhouse.

 

Facility

300m Mondo Track

Six 42" lanes on oval

Eight 42" lanes on sprint straightaway

Dual long jump runways and pits

1/4" pyramid spikes only

Two shot-put circles and 1 discus circle located on 120 yards of Astro-Play Turf.

Clinic Information

* Supervision will be provided during the on site lunch break.

* Participants must bring their own lunch and water bottle.

* Participants should bring their throwing shoes or spikes.

* University of Akron Track & Field T-shirts will be available for sale ($10.00)

* There will be an athletic trainer on duty.

* Throwers should bring indoor shots and discuses.

 

Our main objective is to provide the athlete and/or coach with a sound base of knowledge reguarding

the specific events covered in a hands-on, learn by doing fashion. There will be actual throwing / jumping and sprinting.

 

Clinic Staff

Dennis Mitchell (High Jump & Long Jump)

Coach Mitchell is the Head Track Coach at the University of Akron. In addition to

to developing the number one polevault program in Ohio and the MAC; CoachMitchell has coached the 2000

NCAA champion in the Heptathlon, the 2001 NCAA runner-up in the high jump and several All-

American performers and numerous MAC Champions. Under his tutelage he has developed 23 All-American

awards while here at the University of Akron.

 

Brian Forrester (Shot & Discus)

Coach Forrester uses an intensely enthusiastic and comprehensive approach to developing the throwers

under his tutelage. In his first three seasons at Akron, he has taken the Zips Throws Program to new heights,

coaching three individual MAC Champions, and establishing The University of Akron Throwers as the premier

program in the Mid-American Conference.

 

LeShaunte Edwards (Sprints/ Relay Exchages)

Coach Edwards is the sprints coach at the University of Akron, as an athlete he was a 3 x All-American,

a 2 x Olympic Trials qualifier and a 9 x MAC Champion. He has pr's of 10.23 (100m) and 20.35 (200m).

He is an excellent technichian. He still trains post collegiate and runs for the Kangaroo Track Club.

 

Current University of Akron Track and Field athletes will be assisting with individual instruction.
