Sims Breaks MAC
Record in Women's Vault
Poest
& Russell Break School Record in Men's Vault
Led by record-breaking performances in the pole vault the Akron track teams
came away with two first-place finishes in a quadrangular meet against
Ashland, Duquesne, and Pittsburgh. Kira Sims broke the school and MAC
outdoor record with a 13' 5 ¼" jump, while Kevin Poest and John
Russell broke Poest's school record with 17' ¼" jumps. Regional
qualifying performances were turned in by Greg Miller in the pole vault,
and by Mary Varga and Kelly Green in the high jump.
Other
notable performances included Jennie Castle's new track record in the
800m (2:10.50) and Adriana Zalucka's wins in the 1500m (4:37.1h) and 3000m
(9:57.86). On the day the Akron women won nine events and the men won
five.
