Zips Compete at Ashland Open

A small group of Akron middle distance and distance runners competed at the Ashland Open on Friday evening. Most of the runners ran in off-distance races such as the 600m or the 1000m on Ashland's small (11 laps to the mile) indoor track.

In the men's 600m Nick Continenza ran 1:29.5 and Wes Parker ran 1:31.6, while Emily Freudenrich (1:49.9) and Amy Hutchison (1:52.9) competed for the women.

Akron had six athletes compete in the 1000m. David Pykare (2:48.4), Adam Bray (2:48.5), and Tim Myers (2:51.2) finished within three seconds of each other in the men's race and Jackie Fejes (3:14.9), Brandi Schoeppner (3:16.7), and Samantha Whetherholt (3:19.7) had a tight pack in the women's race.

In the men's 3000m Jake Magier and Matt Isenberg ran controlled races to record times of 9:41.9 and 10:07.3 respectively.
