Jennie Castle Breaks School Record in 800m at the Black Squirrel Classic

Competing in her first race of the indoor season, Jennie Castle won her first collegiate 800m race and set a new school record in the process of 2:13.25. Jennie ran in second place, just off the leader's shoulder, for the first half of the race, passing the 4oom mark in 68.0 seconds. She covered the final 400m in 65.1 seconds to win by 3.76 seconds. Jennie later completed her day with a 57.6 second split on the 4x 400m relay.

Lisa McCaulley and Morgan Sulzener placed 2nd and 3rd (1st and 2nd collegians) in the women's 3000m. Running together for the entire race, McCaulley finished in 10:22.73 and Sulzener ran 10:22.75.

Also competing for the Akron men's distance crew were Nick Continenza in the men's 800m (2:02.96), Tim Myers (4:40.78), Wes Parker (4:47.57), and Adam Bray (4:50.90) in the mile, and Jake Magier (9:33.15) and Matt Isenberg (10:02.83) in the 3000m. For the women, Jackie Fejes ran 2:23.90 in the 800m, while Brandi Schoeppner (5:30.51) and Samantha Whetherholt (5:30.52) represented the Zips in the mile.
