Notre Dame Invitational
Racing in a torrential downpour the Akron men placed 14th in the Gold Division race at the Notre Dame Invitation. Running without David Howard, fellow freshman Chris Perun finished as the Zips' top runner, placing 27th. He was followed by Todd Moyers (68th), Wes Parker (74th), David Pykare (80th), and Jake Magier (92nd). Adam Bray (103rd) and Tim Myers (108th) rounded out the top seven. Akron lost to Western Michigan, but beat Bowling Green.
The weather cleared by the start of the women's race and running under sunny skies the women captured 11th place in the Blue Division race. Adriana Zalucka finished 13th (first among MAC runners). Erin Frye ran a strong race as Akron's second finisher (42nd overall, 3rd MAC). Freshmen filled the next four spots with Lisa McCaulley leading the way in 94th, Morgan Sulzener (104th), Katrina Jones (129th), and Brandi Schoeppner (136th). Although Akron lost to Ball State, picked to finish second in the MAC in the preseason coaches' poll, the Zips defeated Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Eastern Michigan.
