In 2001, the Akron cross country team moved its home course from Goodyear Park to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Special Events Site (now known as Howe Meadow), adjacent to Indigo Lake.  The course is spectator friendly and deceptively challenging.  It incorporates open fields and brief stretches of trail though the surrounding woods.  The men's 4M course record is held by Buffalo's Todd Ludden (20:05.0) and the women's 5km record is held by Bobbie Hardbarger (17:57.3).  In addition to hosting home meets, it is also the site of some cross country workouts.  It is conveniently located adjacent to the Towpath, as well as miles of hiking trails.
