Morgan Sulzener Qualifies for NCAA Championships. Womens Team 7th, Men 17th at Great Lakes Regional Championships

Morgan Sulzener Interview

Morgan Sulzener raced to a 12th-place finish at the Great Lakes Regional Championships earning one of only four individual automatic qualifying berths and helping the women's team to a best-ever seventh-place finish. Sulzener, a junior, never qualified for the Ohio high school state meet in cross country or track. Now she is in the elite field of 255 runners in next Monday's championship 6km race. Joining Sulzener on the All Region team was Brandi Schoeppner, who rebounded from a 44th-place showing at the MAC Championships to nab 24th place, fourth among MAC runners. Beata Rudzinska just missed the All Region team finishing 26th. Jennie Castle (61st overall) and Rachel Zubricky (86th) completed the Zips top five.

The men's team recorded significant improvement with their 17th-place effort. Last year the men placed 24th. Leading the way on the 10km (6.2 mile) course was David Howard in 63rd place. David Pykare capped his season with an 85th-place finish. He was followed by Scott Mate (109th), Jeff Swartzel (111th), and Chris Perun (116th).
