Women 8th, Men 17th at Penn State
Strong performances from the top 4 of Morgan Sulzener (26th, 21:40), Beata Rudzinska (39th, 21:59), Jennie Castle (40th, 22:00), and Brandi Schoeppner (41st, 22:00) helped the Akron women to an eighth-place finish at the Penn State National Invitational. Rachel Zubricky (130th, 23:11) completed the Zips scoring five. The 41-team field included Providence (ranked 2nd nationally), Duke (5th), William & Mary (22nd), West Virginia (24th), and Boston College (29th).
The men's team had a tight 1-5 spread of 53 seconds on the 5.2 mile course. David Howard (55th, 26:48) and Chris Perun (58th, 26:49) paced the Zips. They were followed by Adam Bray (107th, 27:17), David Pykare (112th, 27:20), and Scott Mate (145th, 27:41).
Both teams will next compete at the MAC Championships on October 30 in Toledo, Ohio.
