This collection includes the national and international records of the Pattern Makers League of North America and the local records of the Akron Association. Corporation members include Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, B.F. Goodrich and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. The materials represent a fairly complete account of Akron Association activities in general and in terms of its local corporation members. Also, there is information about the main organization, the Pattern Makers League of North America. This collection might be of interest to someone looking at the record of strikes, lockouts and agreements that were arranged for Akron businesses by the Pattern Makers League of North America union through its Akron Association.
Arrangement:
The Akron Association of the Pattern Makers League of North America Collection consists of three major sections of material. Series 1, the largest of the three series, consists of items from the basic level of the Pattern Makers League of North America: individual Akron Association corporation members. Included are records for approximately 15 local companies. The three corporation members most highly represented are Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, B.F. Goodrich Company and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. The materials include a wide variety of papers such as correspondence, notices, agreements, strike reports as well as various forms regarding elections, lockouts/strikes, amendments to agreements, applications for strike sanction, tally of ballots, grievances, employee listings and wage surveys.
Series 2 contains material at the local level of the Pattern Makers League of North America: The Akron Association. These items include Akron job shop agreements and notices to mediation, amendments to Akron Association laws, a booklet of by-laws, by-law approvals, correspondence, financial reports, monthly reports and newspaper clippings.
Series 3 includes materials at the international level of the Pattern Makers League of North America. Here we have materials such as a Labor Law Course textbook, various labor-oriented booklets, correspondence, District #1 meetings, papers of the National Labor Relations Board and newspaper clippings. Also included are materials relating to other local associations outside of Akron.
