Cataloging Checklist

  1. Make sure title is recorded correctly in 245a
  2. Make sure subtitle is recorded correctly in 245b (sometimes this ends up in 245c!!!)
  3. If an author is listed, make sure the name is recorded in 245c and either 100 or 700 field.
  4. Verify publisher info and date
  5. Verify pagination
  6. If the book is illustrated, make sure that ill. is in the 300b
  7. Subject headings:
    1. Make sure there are at least two subject headings in each record
    2. If you're working on a city or township history, make sure to also add a subject heading for the county that the city/township is in - if you can't figure out which county, put it on the problem shelf.

Final Comments:

Make sure to update all punctuation to current standards!

CHECK the OCLC authority file on both names and subjects (and series, if applicable)!! A number of records include very strange forms of names and subject headings.
