ZIYARET TEPE ARCHAEOLOGICAL TRUST (UK)

The British team at Ziyaret Tepe is led by Dr. John MacGinnis of Cambridge University. The British expedition has been involved in fieldwork at Ziyaret Tepe since the commencement of excavation in 2000, concentrating its efforts in the lower town. With the completion of work on the major administrative complex (Operation G/R) and the monumental gate in the southern city wall (Operation Q), both in the western part of the lower town, the focus has now shifted to the east. In 2011 work commenced in two new locations, an area of low/middle status housing (Operation T) and an elite residence (Operation U). It is envisaged that a number of smaller investigations will also be undertaken in the short time remaining, including investigation of a potential barracks complex and some suspected high status grave.

Fundraising for the work of the British Expedition to Ziyaret Tepe is coordinated by the Ziyaret Tepe Archaeological Trust, a UK registered charity (No.1133366). Those wishing to support the work can contact Dr MacGinnis:
